Introduction

Introduction:
The Bureau of Internal Revenue is an institution of service excellence, a partner in nation-building, manned by globally competitive professionals with integrity and patriotism. They were committed to collect taxes through excellent, efficient and transparent service, just and fair enforcement of tax laws, uplifting the life of every Filipino.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue has different offices in the Philippines from national, regional to district office. One of this is the District Office in Legazpi City where they serve the people in the district of Albay. On the district office they have different department including the Tax Service Section (TSS). It was the first department that people would see upon entering the door of the BIR Legazpi. In this specific department they were processing different taxation documents. Document like the Certificate of Registration (COR) for different kind of businesses, those new registered business and those businesses that are to be updated. Aside from registration and updating documents, they also process the documents for Authority to Print so that businesses could print receipts for their businesses which includes taxes. This department also was the one in charged for generating Tin numbers for businesses, employees and for document purpose, where those registered tin are the tin where taxpayers pay their taxes.
With those transactions and document issuance that the TSS department are generating, modern technology for them played a vital role, in order to ease those works. Like in creating the COR, where at first they use type writers in creating this document, but as time goes by the number of businesses in Albay are growing in number which lead them to embrace the modernization of technology. Now they were using computers and printers to generate the COR documents. With the modern technology they can generate document as fast as type writer or manual can do. But of course modern technology is not all about advantages, it also has disadvantages like if electricity power is cut off, most of the transactions are affected, because almost all of the modern technologies now are electricity power generated. So evaluation is needed to see how really modern technology affects the TSS department on its advantages and disadvantages.

They are related because both of them is the knowledge and ability to use computer

Case Study 2 - GUERILLA WI-FI HELPS TO BRIDGE THE DIVIDE By: Adrian Cervantes

1. Should  Internet  providers be pressured to allow to share their connections with “ non-paying”

customers?

Answer:  No because,  Internet providers  are also using money to provide internet, so the

clients must pay to have connection for the company to earn profit.

2. Would you share your connection  with a total stranger even if it  meant that you would

sometimes experience a slowdown to your connection speed?

Answer:  yes, but  it is only limited number of user. Internet connectivity  depends on  the
number of user.  The more the user  the slower  its speed.

3. How are the digital divide and computer literacy related?

Answer:  first let us define the terms; a Digital Divide refers to the gap between those who can
benefit from digital technology and those who cannot.  And Computer literacy is simply defines
knowing how computers work and operate.  They are related because they both discuss computer
users and usability.

Case Study 2 - GUERILLA WI-FI HELPS TO BRIDGE THE DIVIDE By: Felizardo E. Basilla Jr

1. Should Internet providers be pressured to allow customers to share their connections with “nonpaying” customers?

A:     No! Internet providers should not pressure customers to share with nonpaying customers their connection; why? Because from the first place those customers are paying for their connection. But they can share it with others whom they know or to whom they gave the security, because I believe that this product that Meraki Networks. Inc., is/are providing also security measures with the user or to the owner of the gadget. And another one this meraki router that will allow connection of meraki to miraki should be the one to provide internet connection that would benefit their user. But this kind of thing would make the corporation and businesses of internet connections to doom.

2. Would you share your connection with a total stranger even if it meant that you would sometimes experience a slowdown to your connection speed?

A:      Well, in terms of internet connectivity. The owner of the device should only allow the minimum or maximum capacity according to the estimated number of users that would make his /her connection, be sufficient for him and for the users whom he allowed. This will be provided by right and appropriate networking of the connections. As what stated in the article, that it can accommodate up to fifty users, so if your internet connection can only allow 10 – 20 users or else it will be slow, so I believe the owner can manipulate the security and make the total user up to only 10 - 20 users.

3. How are the digital divide and computer literacy related?

A:    Computer usability is now a subject in elementary to JR high school in the Philippine education perspective. So, when students reach their SR high school they will be computer literate or earlier. While, digital divide was providing low-cost computers to children who could otherwise not afford to buy them. So how are these related, it was related in a way that the child that was given a single computer for him/her to be use, should know how to work with such gadget and how to take good care of it by proper using that will be provided by being computer literate. Because I do believe that having only digital divide would be a crazy thing, if the child who was given a device don not know how to work with it, it would only be a waste of time and money. So to reduce this waste, computer literacy would play a vital role.

Case Study 1 - Managing in the Digital World: Apple Computer By: Felizardo E. Basilla Jr

1.      Given the pace at which technology is converging (e.g., phones, music players, cameras, and so on), what do you think is next for Apple?

1.      Well, now at present time, I was thinking of having a gadget that is a computer like one, where all the things that computer can do will be place into it, like word pad, power point, some excel work and some other apps. Where the user would only wave and speak, which simply mean that it was a gadget that would accept air shuffle and voice command.  As also with sending file contents from one phone to another by just dragging the file. Therefore it was a gadget that would reduce the touch activity and the bluetooth old way. And I think apple would develop such one or more than what I think of.

2. Apple has had many “near-death” experiences throughout its history. Is Apple now here to stay?

2. No! Apple company could not say that they will not or will never encounter down fall. Simply because market competition will always be or forever be there, people are always looking or waiting for new. Other companies are also looking forward on over taking apples achievement in the market, so simple mistake that apple would do, will be an advantage for the competitors and that could be a result for apples to be in a near-death situation, so they really need to put an attention on it. Until there is a competition on the market, Apple company cannot here say that they were stable and would not encounter near-death situations.

3. Jobs has been the catalyst for many of Apple’s successes (and failures). Can Apple survive without Jobs?

            3. Steve Jobs died last October 5, 2011 and we are now at 2013. And Apple Company was still surviving, but I observed that it’s about two years when jobs passed away. But until now Apple Company was not yet releasing new gadget, as far as I remember IPhone 6 was the last. So what is really happening? But we cannot deny the mere fact that they would of course be affected by Jobs death. Maybe they were just still in the way to adjustment or in study of new things, we just need to wait. Well, I cannot remove to myself to be in doubt if Apple company can still survive without Jobs, because Jobs was really one of a kind in terms of developing new gadgets that would work to peoples interest, and I don’t know if Apple company could find another Steve Jobs for their company.
